A long time ago I went to a Christmas Party where a chicken teriyaki dip was served. I had never had anything like it and I fell in love immediately. When I asked for the recipe I was told that I just *had* to use tastefully simple teriyaki sauce because it was the right thickness. I immediately went online and bought a jar. I made this dip over and over again. Even though I only used the tastefully simple teriyaki sauce for this dip I quickly ran out. Unfortunately you can no longer order the teriyaki sauce through tastefully simple. At least I can’t find it. For awhile I forgot about the dip. But one day it popped into my head and I decided I needed to find a way to recreate it using another teriyaki sauce. The results were disappointing. I could not find the right combination of ingredients to make it work. I thought maybe it just wasn’t meant to be. Then I saw this pizza from Bev Cooks. I thought it looked delicious, so we made it one weekend. As I was making it I had an epiphany. This pizza was very similar to my favorite dip. I had never tried hoisin sauce before. I had tried a number of marinade and teriyaki sauce and soy sauce mixes but never hoisin sauce. Turns out hoisin sauce is a perfect substitution for the tastefully simple teriyaki sauce. It is the right thickness and is not too sweet. I was soooo excited to be reunited with my favorite dip again. One thing I will say about this dip is that it is best eaten the same day. We only ate about half and the next day the sauce had begun to absorb into the cream cheese. It still tasted great but it made the cream cheese a kind of unappetizing color. If you like quick and easy dips or you have some leftover chicken breast, give this a try!
Here is what you’ll need
Spread the cream cheese on a plate and chop up the chicken and green onions
Cover the cream cheese layer with chicken and peanuts then drizzle on the hoisin sauce
Top with green onions and sesame seeds
Not the prettiest dip but it sure is tasty!
