Dachshund Cupcakes

Kara’s friends gave her this book for her birthday. Who knew you could transform cupcakes into just about anything… a golf course, lobster, apples, squirrels, the list goes on and on. When I saw these Dachshund Cupcakes I gasped.

Those long dogs with short little legs are the cutest pups ever. I have a doxie, so I am biased. My heart melts at every dachshund I see. A mini dachshund lives in my building and whenever I see the little guy I want to offer the owner (complete stranger) to dog-sit.  I’m also a sucker for anything dachshund related.

My little girl at the dog beach a year or so ago

Needless to say, we had to make these cupcakes…stat. We used our favorite chocolate cupcake recipe (minus the coconut) and the rest was just some basic assembly. It really couldn’t be any easier! If you’re a dog lover…or a cupcake lover…you’ll swoon!!

How to Make Dachshund Cupcakes

  1. Roll the dough out to 1/4 inch thickness.
  2. We used a stencil to cut the face, ears and tail.
  3. After the cookies are baked and cooled it’s time to assemble…like so!
  4. Use chocolate covered almonds for legs and nose and brown pretzel m&ms for eyes.

Use Cheerios for dog food and Scooby Doo Graham Crackers for treats.

Ingredients

  • 8 chocolate cupcakes
  • 10 chocolate covered almonds
  • 4 brown peanut or pretzel M&Ms
  • chocolate frosting (to frost cupcakes and use as glue)
  • white frosting (just a dab for eye balls)
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 16 oz store-bought sugar cookie dough
  • Scooby Doo Graham Cracker Bones, optional
  • Cheerios, optional

Instructions

  • Follow directions for these cupcakes (minus the coconut), or use your own favorite chocolate cupcake recipe. You’ll need 8 total cupcakes.
  • Open cookie dough and combine well with flour and cocoa powder. On a work surface lightly floured with cocoa powder, roll out dough to about ¼ inch thickness. Cut out 4 ears, 2 faces and 2 tails. We used a stencil from the cookbook. Bake, on a parchment lined baking sheet, according to directions on the sugar cookie dough. Let cool completely.
  • While the cookies bake and cool, frost the cupcakes with chocolate frosting. Line the cupcakes in 2 lines, 4 cupcakes long each. Once the cookies have cooled, stick the tails into the last cupcakes and place the 2 ears on each of the first cupcakes. Add some frosting on top of the ears and use as glue to secure the face on.
  • Top each face with 2 M&Ms as eyes and 1 chocolate covered almond for a nose. Use dabs of frosting to glue the chocolates in place. Add a dab of white frosting on the eyes. Finally, use 4 chocolate covered almonds on each dog as legs.
