Memorial Day weekend proved to be unseasonably balmy around Chicago, and at times quite uncomfortable. Unseasonably warm temperatures can only be offset with cool, refreshing drinks if it were up to me. Chicago summers can often be hot and humid so it’s a good idea to always have refreshing drinks like this at the ready.
For the first time, I tried Michelob ULTRA Light Cider, a naturally sweetened and gluten free cider made from crisp apples. You can visit Michelob’s site here, or check out the Michelob ULTRA Light Cider page on BlogHer.com. Considering I am not a beer drinker, this cider was an excellent alternative to beer. It’s low maintenance like beer, just pop off the top and drink it cold. And actually, it’s good both cold and served over a glass of ice. I know, I’ve tried it both ways. However, it’s lighter and more refreshing than beer. It doesn’t leave you with that heavy feeling like some beers tend to. I’ve always enjoyed drinking cider, and this one was definitely no exception.
What I like specifically about Michelob ULTRA Light Cider is the tart apple taste. It’s different than other ciders I’ve tried in the past. To me, this one tastes like granny smith apples squeezed right into clear glass bottles. It’s lighter in color and is light and smooth going down. And actually, it’s made from hand-picked apples. How cool!
The next time I have a group of girlfriends over, I am going to skip the ordinary bottle of wine and cheap champagne route I normally take. Instead, I am going to buy a couple 6 packs of cider, toss the bottles in a big ice bucket and have a relaxing night gathered around our new patio set talking, laughing and enjoying drinks and snacks. Or even better I will take that ice bucket to our newly found sundeck on the 30th floor of my building and enjoy this cider while soaking up the sun. It really is a perfect summertime beverage!
One of the best aspects of Michelob ULTRA Light Cider is the fact that you don’t need to feel guilty about drinking it. They’re only 120 calories per bottle which is one-third fewer calories than average ciders. A guilt free cider that actually tastes good…it’s genius.
Which favorite summer meal or activity do you think would go best with Michelob ULTRA Cider?
