Meatball Pizza

A few weeks ago Cliff, Winnie and I visited our friends house. While we were there we ordered pizza. We usually are somewhat conservative in our pizza ordering. Cheese, pepperoni, sausage. Nothing wild. Sometimes deep dish, sometimes thin crust. Not this time though. Carolyn and Jared had a groupon for a pizza place I’d never been. Not only was it a new place but we ordered a pizza I had never even heard of. We ordered a double-decker meatball pizza. I seriously had no idea what to expect. I’m not even a big fan of meatballs. Thankfully, I actually really enjoyed the pizza. It was a thin crust meatball pizza topped with another thin crust meatball pizza. So, pretty much exactly as the name suggests. The meatballs were cut into slices so that the pizza was not 6 inches tall.

Since I enjoyed the pizza so much I decided to create something similar at home. I have no idea how to create a double decker pizza but I still wanted to make a meatball pizza. Cliff and Kelly love meatballs so I knew it would be a big crowd pleaser. I browned the meatballs to help them keep their shape. I made them fairly small so that they didn’t end up too big for the pizza. It turned out excellent!! Cliff topped his pizza with giardinera. Of course he did! Why am I surprised? If you are looking to make a new, unique pizza, this might be just the one!

Here is what you’ll need

Mix together the ingredients for the meatballs

Form the mixture into balls

Brown in a pan

Add the sauce

Roll out the pizza dough

Top with sauce cheese and meatballs. As many as you can fit!

Enjoy with or without giardiniera!
