I’ve only recently started eating mango. I am still very particular about them. I like them ripe; not the least bit hard. They have become one of my favorite fruits. I will bring a mango to work once in awhile and my friend Jane just hates to even look at them. She claims to have mango trauma from being forced to eat so many fresh mangos when she visited Thailand. Personally, I cannot imagine eating too many fresh mangos to be a problem but apparently she suffered some trauma from all the fresh mangos. She even claims that they are unnaturally sweet, which I also do not understand because how can a mango be anything but natural? I believe her to be in the minority because pretty much everyone I know loves good fresh mangos.
Unfortunately, good fresh mangos are hard to come by. When I can find them I buy a whole bunch but the good mango season does not last long here. Luckily, even when we can’t get fresh mango we can still get frozen. I don’t eat frozen mangos on their own but they are great in drinks and smoothies. When we go to Mexico I alternate between 3 drinks; pina coladas, strawberry daquiris, and Miami vices. Miami vices are a combo of strawberry daquiris and pina coladas. In other words, I am pretty boring. But I know what I like; nothing wrong with that. When I saw this mango colada on pinterest I knew right away I would like it. I like pina coladas and I like mangos. Why not mango coladas. And of course, I did like it. I took mine minus the rum but I still really enjoyed it. Between the frozen mango and the mango nectar the mango flavor was very apparent. The coconut milk obviously brought the coconut flavor and also some creaminess. Next time we go to Mexico I will definitely see if they can make mango coladas!
